President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump on Monday held one-on-one talks at the White House to discuss the ongoing Ukraine war. Trump’s meeting with Zelensky comes days after his summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska, as the US president works to establish a ceasefire in the Russia-Ukraine war.
Ahead of his meeting with Trump, the Ukrainian president took to social media to praise the US president as he claimed only the US has the strength “to force Russia into peace”. Meanwhile, in a series of Truth Social posts, Trump stated that “he knows what he is doing” when it comes to the negotiations with Russia and Ukraine. Trump further shared that he is only here to “stop the war, not to prosecute it any further”.
The last meeting between Trump and Zelensky ended up making the headlines due to a very public verbal spat between the two leaders and US Vice President JD Vance. Six months later, as Zelensky marks his return to the White House, he is accompanied by European leaders such as German Chancellor Fredrich Merz, French president Emmanuel Macron, Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni and many more.
